Summer Camp

It is so fun to see Christian and Damaris in their environment. They are fully integrated, having furnished their apartment with local finds (and for about 75 dollars). Most impressive. Enzo goes to a Spanish speaking playgroup one day a week (why not learn three languages?) and has a multitude of fun in other ways (dancing wildly being one of them). Damaris doesn't miss much either, as you can imagine. The school itself is tucked amid the redwoods and yes, feels very much like the kind of place you might (if you were very lucky) go for summer camp. I'd half expect to get a merit badge if I went here instead of a grade (which makes it less intimidating). The town is very cute with lots of flowers and vintage victorian cottages (not new made to look like vintage). The ocean, unfortunately, is cold and gray and no matter how hot you are before you get there, not inviting enough to get me in. (I've been ruined by Hawaii.) Still, my goal is to get in before I go because I do not believe in being such a woose (how would you spell that?) It's time to go now to Musi's for lunch. Musi, by the way, is looking particularly beautiful with a cute new hair cut and who knows why else. I sugested that widowhood agrees with her and she laughed, "People tell me I'm looking younger." Not that we don't all love Bernarr. In any case, we're heading up the mountain.

Sounds fun. Where we live does not resemble even remotely resemble a summer camp. Mariko is coming today. Kids are excited. Miriam has been asking about it all week. No concept of time whatsoever. Just today and tomorrow. The rest is all a shapeless mass of future and past. Anyway, even though we are in Japan and I have a bone-crushing amount of work to avoid, I am determined to have fun this summer. We'll keep you posted.
